Rivers are one of the best gifts of nature, essential for the survival of humans and other living creatures, But there are a few rivers in the world that possess unknown threats and are perceived treacherous and dangerous. Such rivers have several threats from animal life, unknown depths and unpredictable currents, among others.

Congo River, Africa
This is the world’s deepest river, reaching a depth of 720 ft. The river is so deep that even the light can’t penetrate its depth. The upper section of the river is quite dangerous and is filled with rapids, while the lower section has many gorges and waterfalls. The waters of the Congo contain various kinds of reptiles, of which crocodiles are the most striking species. Semiaquatic tortoises are also found, as are several species of water snakes.Many of the 42 shark and ray species caught in Congo are on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. At least 15, including hammerheads, manta rays, mako and thresher sharks, require export permits under a treaty signed by 183 nations, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). It takes 22 days to travel the river With a total length of 4371 km, the Congo River is the second longest river in Africa after the Nile, and with an average flow rate of 40,000 cubic meters per second.

Shanay-Timpishka (Boiling River), Peru
This is a tributary of the Amazon river. You will be amazed to know that this is the only boiling river in the whole world! Also famous as La Bomba, this 6.4 km long river is known for its extremely high water temperatures (from 45°C to nearly 100°C).Though what's believed to be the river's ancient name, Shanay-timpishka, translates to 'boiled with the heat of the sun', “the river boils because of fault-fed hot springs, The river is located in the Mayantuyacu sanctuary, part of the Huánuco high forest. The area is inhabited by an Asháninka community. Local shamans believe that the boiling water is birthed by Yacumama, a giant serpent spirit known as the "Mother of the Waters. The source of the heat is actually geothermal, so do not even think of touching the water with bare hands!

Mississippi River, North America
This is the longest river in North America and travels through several states. Some of the most dangerous habitats of this river are bull sharks and pike fish, which are quite dangerous. Swimming is not recommended here. Besides, the river also experiences numerous surprising undercurrents, which are mostly unpredictable and are capable of swallowing a swimmer down into its depths.
